Child Welfare Defense

When someone contacts Utah’s DCFS (Division of Child and Family Services) with a concern about a child’s well being, DCFS often files a petition with the juvenile court. This is to determine if a parent has abused or neglected their child. If the court makes the determination that the allegations are true, the court may order the parent participate in treatment or counseling. The child can also be removed from the home.

When DCFS intervenes in a situation like this, it can often be frightening and disruptive to the rest of the family. Knowing what rights you have and having an attorney to help guide you through this can lessen the stress. Our office has significant experience in defending parents in such cases.
